NUS Will Offer Free Online Courses

NUS is proud to announce that starting from January 2014, anyone around the world can access NUS’ online courses via Coursera. Coursera is a leading MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) which has connections to more than eighty universities around the world including Yale and Stanford. NUS is the first university here in Singapore that offers free online courses. NUS will begin this by presenting three specialized courses to include:

Write Like Mozart: An Introduction to Classical Musical Composition

This course will be presented by Associate Professor Peter Edwards. The course will commence on January 2014; it will last up to six weeks with two to three hours per week. This will introduce ideas to the students particularly in the style of Classical and Romantic European music.

Unpredictable? Randomness, Chance and Free Will

This course will be presented by Professor Valerio Scarani. The course will commence on January 2014; it will last up to eight weeks with two to three hours per week. This will deal with the randomness when it comes to communication, computation, quantum phenomena , etc.

Reason and Persuasion: Thinking Through Three Dialogues by Plato

This course will be presented by Associate Professor John Holbo. The course will commence on February 2014; it will last up to eight weeks with three to four hours per week. This will involve examining three Platonic dialogues and footnotes to Plato.

Bringing Singapore’s best to the world for free is very noble. No matter where you are, you can join in the classes and learn new things. The courses of Coursera are available by subjects and in different languages (like Chinese, Italian, Spanish and French).
